Gangtok

Gangtok, the capital city of Sikkim is located on a ridge at a height of 5500 feet in East Sikkim. With a clear view of the Khangchendzonga, the town provides the perfect base for travel through the state. Once an important transit point for traders traveling between Tibet and India, it is today a busy administrative and business centre and presents an interesting mix of cultures and communities.
Gangtok is a cosmopolitan town which offers tourists all possible amenities. Hotels are available in a range of prices along with a variety of eateries serving cuisine for all tastes. Shopping complexes, cyber cafes, night clubs and pool parlours abound for those so inclined.
MG Marg, the main street of Gangtok town is a great place to chill out. You can sit at the Titanic Park or at the various benches stretched across the mall and take in the carnival like atmosphere, especially during the tourist season. The Mall is lined with shops on both sides of the road so shopping becomes an added pleasure.
MG Marg is also the venue for the annual Gangtok Food and Culture festival held in December each year when Sikkim’s multi-cultural cuisine, along with music and dance performances are showcased. This event attracts a large number of locals and tourists each year.

Pelling

Pelling, a small town sited at a height of 6800ft was initially covered with wild thick forest which served as home to many indigenous wild animals of that period. This ridge being situated in between two old Buddhist monasteries (Pemayangtse and Sangacholing) developed into a full-fledged village named Pelling. Today, Pelling is one of the busy tourist hotspots in Sikkim due to its scenic beauty and as it offers a close view of world’s third highest mountain Mt.Kanchenjunga and other snow covered ranges from here. More than that, Pelling is the heart where all the breathtaking tourist spots of West Sikkim can be visited in several optional sightseeing tours.
Kaluk-Rinchenpong
Kaluk is a small village located in the Himalayan foothills of West Sikkim, near Gyalshing. It is a tourist destination for its natural beauty. Kangchenjunga, the world’s third highest peak, is clearly visible from Kaluk. The upcoming tourist spot in the western part of Sikkim, has a magnificent command over the mountain views, sunrise and sunset, flora and fauna, village tourism, historical sites and heritage of Resum Monastery, rich forests and ample scope for short treks.
At an altitude of about 5576ft, Rinchenpong is the latest addition to the tourist map of West Sikkim. The place is famous for the beautiful view of the Kanchenjunga range of mountains. Apart from the natural beauty of the surroundings, the place is also quite significant from a historical point of view.

Kaluk Rinchenpong

Located in between Kanchenjunga Biosphere Reserve in the north and Singalila National Park in the south is the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary of West Sikkim. This 104 square kilometer sanctuary is located between altitude ranges of 2,200 m to 4,100m and is the home to a wide variety of plant and animal life. The Barsey Rhododendron Sanctuary or the Varsey Rhododendron Sanctuary forms a border with West Bengal and Nepal and can be reached from three points, Dentam, Hilley and Soreng.
The main attractions of this place are the different species of Rhododendrons blooming in various colors. The most popular variety of this species is the red colored ones, apart from the pink and white varieties as well. The sanctuary also houses many other species of plant life like oaks, Magnolia and pine along with various species of Himalayan animals like Black Bear and Red Panda.

Hee-Bermiok

Ravangla

Ravangla is a relatively new tourist spot in South Sikkim. It is a small picturesque town on the highway from Gangtok to Gyalshing at an elevation of 8,000 ft. Ravangla is one of the few places in Sikkim which offer undisturbed views of the Greater Himalayas (Mt. Kanchenjunga, Mt. Pandim, Mt. Sinialchu, Mt. Kabru). In April and May lots of flowers are in full blossom. The weather in Ravangla is very volatile, so always be prepared for rains.
